Hölder’s theorem for totally ordered monoids
Abstract:
Hölder’s theorem is a classical result in ordered groups stating that a totally ordered group embeds into the reals if and only if it is Archimedean. We discuss an extension of this result in which Archimedeanicity is replaced by the property that “every congruence is induced by an ideal”.
