Ramsey Witnesses Part 1: The Basics of Arithmetic Ramsey Theory
Abstract:
This talk is meant as an introduction to arithmetic Ramsey theory. This is the mathematical area including Ramsey witnesses, which will be the topic of a future talk by R. Mennuni.
My main goal is to use some examples to explain what arithmetic Ramsey theory is about, why it can be interesting, and why it can be horribly painful. Luckily, model theory/nonstandard analysis can sometimes be used to ease this pain.
